We DIG our planet

Earth Day was this past Wednesday (April 22nd, 2009). I've been trying little by little to become more green. Not only do I want to set a good example for Delilah but I want to do my part in saving our planet.

In honor of Earth Day, I planted a Japanese Maple (Thank You Kathleen!).

<--One way that I am trying to become more green is by no longer using paper lunch bags. Instead, I am now using re-usable, and eco-friendly bags.

Yoga rocks!

So, this past Tuesday I embarked my 1st Yoga adventure with Kir, Mari, & Yvette.

Our 1st class was with Ellen Mathews. She was very welcoming and patient. At the
beginning of the class I felt immediately overwhelmed...we held each pose for what felt like an eternity. Not to mention there were a couple of poses that were not CHUNK-MONKEY friendly. But, Ellen was able to put me at ease by suggesting alternate or less strenuous poses. She also gave not so subtle tips like "tuck your tummy" lol....tuck my tummy? Where do you suppose I tuck this lovely tummy? Hehehe

I was glad that I took this class with the girls. We had a blast that evening and even the following couple of days talking about our various stories in our Yoga class. I'm still not convinced that Yoga is for the CHUBBIES, but I sure am impressed about the experience. I loved how my body felt as it streched and how calming it was. This will definitely be my Tuesday evening hangout!



Kir- I am now convinced you are a human pretzel.
Mari- Don't worry we'll both practice on how to get our legs up on the wall!
Yvette- I think we both know they DON'T sanitize those mats (ewww!)

Getting Ready to see Britney 4-16-09

Here are some pictures of us getting ready before the Britney concert! Too bad we didn't take our camera in to the actual concert. I thought I was being a responsible concert goer- by not bringing in my camera. Come to find out that they were encouraging picture taking! Boo for me. Katie did get a couple of pics on her cell...I'll post them later. The concert was awesome. :-)

Strauss Spring Cooking 101

So...late Saturday afternoon...Eric had an idea. HE wanted look up a fish recipe online, get the ingredients and cook dinner together. Cooking dinner with with my husband??? Didn't take but a second for me to jump on board!

1st stop Whole Foods in Pasadena. It's not usually our market of choice, but we wanted a wide variety of fresh fish options and something different. It turned out to be a perfect choice.





Here's what we bought! The fish was very reasonable... infact we ended up buying 2 pieces for each of us (Opakapaka Fillet & Red Snapper). The wine was great (2006 Juan Gil Jumilla Red Wine). We also picked up some asparagus...Eric's a big fan.





No Fish meal is complete without the most awesome instant white rice from Trader Joes! I stock pile it in our freezer. The rice comes in little pouches that you cut a slit in and pop the bag in the microwave for 3 minute...and voila you have some fresh, yummy Thai Jasmine Rice!

This is the Lemon-Oil Sauce recipe from Allrecipes.com (Check out the website it has a endless amount of recipes!)










Once we mixed the sauce we poured it on the fish, before it went on the BBQ. The fish only took about 10 mins in the "Q", I was surprised as to how quickly and thoroughly they cooked.




We had a crisp Romaine Salad with Feta Cheese and Italian Dressing...simple but oh-so-good.




We can't forget our asparugus. :-) We added some olive oil, freshly grated ginger (Eric's idea), and garlic. Put in oven @ 300 degrees and for about 20 minutes.







Our Spring cooking was fun and well worth it, we were able to spend some quality time together and enjoy a fab meal together. We make a good team!





Our dessert was a mango fruit bar from Whole Foods. Very refreshing after such a warm day.

I will warn you, their customer service isn't the greatest but it's worth it because of the great caked and the affordable prices. A quarter sheet will run you about 20-22 dollars.




In my opinion their best cake is the fresh Strawberry cake! It's fresh, light, and oh ...so....YUMMY!
